Bio
I have a PhD in economic history, but am not an academic. I’ve been an entrepreneur for the past 15 years and am now looking to return to my roots. Writing this blog is an outlet for some thoughts and concerns I’ve had since the late 1980s. I am very troubled about the future of our country and think we’ve lost our way at a time when we really need to dig deep and understand how we’re going to get back to a society that values things like integrity, respect for knowledge, responsibility, an individual work ethic, industriousness and a desire to make a better place for all. Unfortunately the political parties are co-opted by special interest, though there are some bright lights, the system is irreparably broken. Third parties, such as Libertarians are verging on the lunatic fringe and offer no real hope of resolving our problems. There are a few voices in the wilderness, but there is no organization capable of guiding the country through some turbulent times ahead.
That said, there are a slew of authors who have defined the problem far better than I. If you read nothing else, read the following:
John Bogle,
-
The Battle for the Soul of Capitalism
Naomi Klein,
- Disaster Capitalism
William Greider,
- Secrets of the Temple
Niall Ferguson,
- Ascent of Money
Also, there are several bloggers I follow. They can be found in the blog roll.
